Rick Fernandez is a Regional Healthcare Director at Walgreens overseeing 550+ pharmacy locations in the Texas/Oklahoma/Southern New Mexico Region. Rick has served in various capacities within Walgreens for more than 25+ years. He is a past president of the El Paso Pharmacy Association, and has previously served on the Admissions Committee and Advisory Board for the newly opened University of Texas El Paso College of Pharmacy. Rick is also current member of the American Pharmacist Association and the Texas Pharmacy Association. Rick also served on several organizations in El Paso, such as The Children’s Miracle Network and also with El Paso Community College’s Technician Advisory Committee. The evolving healthcare industry and the role pharmacy plays in promoting health and wellbeing is a forceful driver for Rick. He is dedicated to working with legislators, healthcare advocates and charity groups to reach more people to promote the advancement of the pharmacy profession. Prior input on State Senator Jose Rodriguez’s Healthcare Advisory Committee also revealed Rick’s passion for the El Paso community in working with those in need.
Rick was the founding chairman of the newly created El Paso Viral Hepatitis Task Force, started to link together providers, service groups and family, to those afflicted with hepatitis and also to collaborate on removing barriers to medical treatments. Furthermore, his tenure with Centro San Vicente, a Federally Qualified Health Clinic, in the Mission Valley of El Paso, on their Board of Directors, demonstrated passion for serving the underprivileged as well.
Born and raised in West Texas, Rick recently relocated north of Fort Worth to Northlake from El Paso. Rick earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1994 from the University of New Mexico and graduated with honors from the University of Phoenix in 2014 with a Masters of Business Administration. Rick is married to Lucy and is proud parent of six children of varying ages.
